How I Grocery Shop

I’ve been asked more than once what I get at the grocery store so I decided I would share it here. I tend to eat the same thing everyday except if I am going out to eat or cooking one of my Healthy Yuppie meals. That includes a veggie omelette for breakfast, chicken with salad and beans/vegetables for lunch, and chicken with beans/vegetables for dinner. Sometimes I will switch in fish or ground beef but I rarely get bored of chicken (especially when I switched up the marinade). Though eating the same way each day isn’t for everyone, it allows me to prevent food waste due to unused leftover ingredients and it also saves me time and energy thinking about what I am going to make/eat.

In addition to what I buy weekly, I also have foods that I buy in bulk when they are on sale and then store them. These are foods I will always eat and do not perish (in how they are stored).

Weekly Grocery List

  • Bell pepper (red, yellow, or orange) - for breakfast omelette

  • Spinach - for breakfast omelette and lunch salad

  • Mushrooms - for breakfast omelette and lunch salad

  • Yellow onions - for breakfast omelette

  • Avocados - for breakfast omelette

  • Grape/Cherry tomatoes - for lunch salad

  • Celery - for a snack

  • Hummus - for a snack

  • Eggs - for breakfast omelette

What I Buy In Bulk When On Sale

  • Chicken breasts - buy in bulk and freeze. I often have 10+ lbs. in my freezer

  • Black beans - for lunch/dinner sides

  • Frozen vegetables - for lunch/dinner sides. A common misconception is that frozen veggies are not as healthy as fresh veggies. Quite the contrary. They are often healthier as they are flash frozen at the peak of freshness.

  • Green grapes - to freeze and eat when I have sweet cravings

  • Almonds - which I usually buy online
